Great Places Housing Group is a forward-thinking, inclusive and exciting organisation which exists to improve the lives of the thousands of people living in its portfolio of 18,000 homes. One of the largest developing housing associations in the North, meeting the differing needs of the diverse communities they serve.

The Challenge

Great Places is constantly reviewing and evaluating the provision of services within the organisation and at times, this means taking some difficult decisions.  Therefore, there are times when some managers and colleagues are placed at risk of redundancy or having to go through a redeployment process.

In order to give employees the best chance possible at gaining another role within the organisation or externally, What Next provide redeployment and outplacement support.  We help them to manage the changes effectively, providing them with the tools necessary to increase their success through the process.

What Next continue to work closely with Great Places order to deliver a programmes that meet the needs of business and the individuals, enabling colleagues to tap into their potential and perform to the best of their ability.

Programme Design

Using our expert knowledge and experience, What Next produced a programme tailored specifically to Great Place's selection process, enabling delegates to prepare thoroughly giving them the best chance possible at securing their preferred role.  The programme included a number of short workshops combined into a one day programme which included:

  • Managing the Process (including change curve, managing emotions, where to get support)
  • Tailored CV Writing 
  • Interview Skills including what to expect from an Assessment Centre and how to answer competency based questions
  • Presentation Skills

Following assessments centres, any colleagues who are not successful at gaining a role with Great Places are referred to What Next for further support.  Depending on the colleague's needs, this could entail an additional 'Job Hunting' workshop or 1:2:1 bespoke coaching support with a dedicated coach.  During 1:2:1 coaching,  clients are provided with bespoke support on CV writing, interview skills, confidence building and personal branding.

The Results

Feedback from both assessors and delegates has been exceptional, with regard to both the content of the programme and the support delegates feel that they have received.  As a result, we continue to support Great Places with ongoing redeployment and outplacement support.  We also regularly coach senior leaders, middle managers and non-management colleagues in order to assist them with development areas, increasing their performance enabling them reaching both business and personal goals.
