WHAT WILL THEY ACHIEVE NEXT?

Wulvern Housing

Providing Redeployment & Outplacement Support to Wulvern Housing.

About Wulvern

Wulvern is an award winning housing association, providing affordable homes and services to customers across Cheshire and into Staffordshire.  Created in 2003, Wulvern’s original homes and shops were transferred from Crewe and Nantwich Borough Council, since then they have continued to grow, providing high-quality, affordable houses for people in housing need as well as key community services.

The Challenge

Whilst Wulvern is not part of the public sector they do receive government funding to build new homes and restore communities. In response to the Welform Changes being introduced by the government, Wulvern recognised the need to restructure their business to ensure they were closer to their customers.  As a result of this review a number of colleagues at all levels were placed at risk of redundancy and were required to go through a redeployment process.

In line with Wulvern's commitment to being  "a brilliant place to work and a company that others want to work with" What Next has worked closely with the Wulvern HR team for over 4 years delivering programmes that meet the needs of business and the individuals.  Providing essential skills enabling delegates to tap into their potential and perform to the best of their ability during redeployment selection processes or following redundancy.

Programme Design

Through discussions with the HR team to understand the types of evaluations that would form part of assessment processes, we designed an effective redeployment programme involving a number of short workshops combined into a one-day.  One day programmes typically include:

  • Managing the Process (including the change curve, managing emotions, taking care of yourself and where to get support)
  • CV Writing
  • Interview Skills including how to answer competency based questions
  • Presentation Skills

Following the redeployment and recruitment processes, any colleagues who are not successful are referred to What Next for further support which includes a half-day Job Hunting Workshop on which covers:

  • Where to look for jobs
  • Managing your time effectively - logging progress
  • Using LinkedIn effectively
  • The Power of Networking

Colleagues are also offered 1:2:1 sessions with a What Next Career Coach, who will provid bespoke support on CV writing, interview skills and confidence training.

The Results

Feedback from both assessors and delegates has been exceptional about both the content of the programme and the support participants feel that they have received. We continue to provide outplacement and redeployment support to Wulvern on an ongoing basis.  We are also happy to confirm that, What Next have been accepted on to Wulvern's Coaching Framework working with Senior Leaders and colleagues in need of intensive support and coaching.
